Common Grace and Amos Lee
We walked by Union Square and down into a side neighborhood, buildings rising to a lit up Manhattan night sky. We saw the theatre, entered the lobby, and heard a roar from inside – odd, considering it was only the opening act. We hustled in to join the commotion, watching two Southern bells harmonize and lullaby next to an older gentleman playing the guitar. At the end of the song the Secret Sisters turned to the crowd and said, “Thank you to Mr. Elvis Costello for playing on with us.” Again, the crowd went wild.

The theater was slammed full of four or five hundred people. The set change took twenty minutes, and as I stood in the crowd watching men dressed in black move cables around a dark stage, I began to regret spending the $40 for this concert. It was late and I felt old. My ankles throbbed from a long day of walking around the city. Yet, we waited and waited, for the headliner – Amos Lee.
